I know we all try and do our bit for the environment. Recycling our rubbish, biodegradable laundry liquid, unbleached loo paper (I’m not naming names here but SOME of us try, hey Cath!) But did you know that in Australia, over 30 million toothbrushes are used and disposed of by each of us each year. And that the plastic they’re made of won’t break down in our lifetime nor within the lifetime of our children. That is a whole lot of nasty if you ask me.
I recently bought one of these Environmental Toothbrushes and they ROCK! Invented by a Brisbane dentist (supporting our local economy – TICK), this toothbrush is made from 100% bamboo (one of my favourite plants as you all know because it is in front of my house, along the side of my house and at the back of my house) is 100% biodegradable, environmentally sustainable, does not pollute the environment or contribute to deforestation. Even the packaging is biodegradable. (um – that would be TICK, TICK, TICK and TICK) PLUS (and for someone like me who loves beautiful things and has been known to stand in the supermarket aisle for too long a time deciding on the colour of her toothbrush) they are lovely to look at and comfortable to hold. (TICK, TICK)
What is the cost of this lovely item you ask? Well the Environmental Toothbrush is available in a pack of 12 for only $36 and with shipping it works out at about $4 a toothbrush which is comparable to your tricked out versions at the supermarket. You can buy them here now, and you can thank me and the earth can thank you later.
