Vintage Advantage

I haven’t done an outfit post in a while and to be honest – I’m not quite sure if you like them. I just think that because I don’t get many comments about them. As you can imagine they are very hard to do. Firstly, I have to feel like having my picture taken (it seems more likely that I would feel like having root canal but having a photographer for a husband and photoshop help). Secondly, I have to choose an outfit that I like (I mean how impossible is that???) Then lastly, I have to fight with Jason about how I want it shot. I am keen for the same-same look but he always wants to do something different, push the envelope, take it up a notch. Must have something to do with his adventurous nature but, you know, once you find a pose that flatters you then really, why change it? Here is my uniform these days – give or take the bicycle – striped top, jeans leggings and flats. An interesting aside I should mention (and this is for my mum who reads this much to my consternation) is that this top was originally my mother’s and is as old as I am. It is somewhat falling apart but I think it gives it that worn-in rock-and-roll look all the kids are wearing these days. And it is lucky to have survived because I am one of those girls that systematically and religiously throws things out that I don’t wear or don’t like anymore. I have never lived in a place with any sort of storage so I need to keep my wardrobe pared back to a minimum. That is why I am amazed this top has survived any number of ruthless trashing sessions. I imagine it will be one of those rare pieces of clothing that really will just fall apart. What pieces of clothing have you owned that you have worn to death?

I bet Jill looked awesome in that top too, until you fleeced it from her Sal! 1956? Are you kidding? My 1989 shirt story just doesn’t stack up (and wearing it right now). As for venomous comments, well it always says a lot more about the speaker than it does about the subject, and it reminds us all how lucky we are to know you. xxx
How awesome is your Mum that she has weighed in!!! I love that we’ve got more background on the top.:)
mmmm, if true success can only be measured by the small mindedness of your opponents, then you are doing EXTREMELY well Sal. You should be giving yourself a little pat on the back that someone has taken the time to track your blogs, and then formulated such a comment! It was pretty early in the morning too, so i think the meds were still taking affect. You have one of the best blogs I have had the pleasure of reading. You go girl! Mama Jill you sound like a great Mum. (p.s. if people put as much energy into their health as they did at being nasty, obesity would be obsolete, and I would be RICH!)
I traded it with Lenore in 1956 for a white dress so it is a lot older than you are.
You look great.
Mama
Dear Sal,
I absolutely love your posts, please keep them coming.
“Sarah” is of course entitled to her opinion and she’s expressed it, albeit in a hurtful manner. Oh and for the record I totally disagree, I care!
Nothing wrong with constructive criticism, but bad manners… very uncool! There’s a free tip for you Sarah! I’m hoping you were just having a bad day!
Pxx
Nice bike Sal, must be a legend who found that! Unfortunately someone must be a little hypoxic today and have forgot their manners
Why oh why do people waste the short time we have on this earth to put negative, hurtful and unfriendly (not to mention completely WRONG!!) thoughts out there?? Sarah, didn’t your mother ever teach you that if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all??
Sal: ignore, ignore, ignore! I LOVE your outfit posts and seeing your style evolve and change but always stay ‘on-song’. I think it’s awesome that you do these and that your blog isn’t one-dimensional. The reason I love visiting this blog all the time is because there’s always some different.
Keep it up, we love your work!
Sal, I do not think it was a bad comment, just a bitchy one. Some people’s lives do not extend to much more than this.
Crikey, I’m getting too in touch with my feminine side!
Thanks guys – I published the comment because I wanted to make sure that we don’t only publish the good stuff but the bad as well.
You look amazing Sal! I am completely jealous of your look at style! I have many words for Sarah but my manners are better than that.
Sigh…I don’t mean this to be a conversation with “Sarah” but…why bother looking if you don’t care…and don’t begin to think that bitter comments = witty comments.
Sal – you look uber-stylish and gorgeous as always. We all love your blog and those who don’t – perhaps just shouldn’t read it! Keep doing what you’re doing xx
You don’t get comments? Shouldn’t that tell you something? No one cares what you wear. And you’re a little old to be pulling this kind of thing off, so noone thinks your cool or trendy like you make out.
Just keep printing the wedding photos.
Great pic, you look very pretty, and that bike frame is amazing! Good luck to the both of you re-wrapping those bars!
I will chime in & say that I love your outfit posts, Sal! And Jason does you proud, although he needs to tickle you or tell you a knock-knock joke & THEN take the picture! Those flats are the best color! (And match the bike…!) Very cool you still have that shirt. A classic classic.
I had a polo shirt in college that I wore to death. It was the best color & the best fabric & I liked myself in it. I just couldn’t admit that it was falling apart & wore it with holes & even patched it at one point. I actually might have it somewhere in a box as a souvenir. But I am ruthless as you are with most clothes. Especially the ones that are not quite what you had hoped they’d be. Give them away & try again!
